WEDC presents preliminary Village Center redesign concept, solicits public input.

WILBRAHAM — The Wilbraham Economic Development Committee presented a preliminary Village Center pedestrian access and safety plan at a public information session April 9. Vice Chair Jeffrey Smith and VHB engineer John Thurman walked residents through a conceptual design including a speed table at Main and Springfield Street, 22 additional public parking spaces in Crane Park, widened sidewalks, and enhanced memorial amenities. The plan, funded by the Select Board in 2022, drew broad support for traffic calming and monument improvements but raised concerns about green space loss, parking necessity, and impacts on the residential character of the area.
Smith said the design represents options to be explored and invited residents to provide markup feedback directly to the committee before it makes a recommendation to the Select Board.
